Berlin is changing. The city is growing and becoming more densely populated. The population is getting older, and people are becoming more isolated. At the same time, networking and digitalization are taking over all areas of life. And last but not least, climate change is increasingly causing extreme weather conditions. For the Berlin Fire Service, this is resulting in new deployment scenarios and resources, new demands on its staff, but also new expectations of itself as an employer and security service provider - in other words, changes in almost all areas. We will increasingly have to rescue older people from situations in which they can no longer help themselves. We will have new technologies at our disposal to involve more citizens and better assess dangerous situations. We will have to take new approaches to recruiting staff and address new target groups.
With the 2030 strategy, the Berlin Fire Department has addressed the associated opportunities and challenges, sharpened its self-image and assigned strategic goals to important areas of action. The Berlin Fire Department needs to be resilient and capable of regeneration, going far beyond the current level.
We are therefore working harder to continuously adapt our resources to the actual requirements of daily operations.
We will be even more involved than before when it comes to increasing the city's ability to resist and regenerate, i.e. its resilience. We want to better network important players in the city, whether in fire protection, the emergency services or in the event of a disaster.
In this way, we are making a special contribution to improving safety and developing Berlin as a health city. We want to counteract the negative effects of the increasing individualization of Berlin's population by strengthening their ability to help themselves. We see ourselves as a driving force for prevention and educating the population, as well as for mobilizing first responders and spontaneous helpers.
Internally, we need to increase our attractiveness as an employer in order to retain and recruit the necessary number of staff. To do this, we are developing the Berlin Fire Service into an organisation in which community and appreciation are actively lived and the management culture combines everyday work, operational activities and individual needs. We are getting ready for the future
